Cook the lentils in the water with salt and bay leaf according to package instructions.
In a pan, sauté with the olive oil the onions, carrots and 1 garlic clove until the carrots are soft and the onions are translucent, about 5-7 minutes.
Once the lentils are cooked, drain all leftover liquid in them using a mesh colander.
In a bowl, combine the cooked lentils, onion and carrot mixture, ground oats, egg, cumin, salt and pepper, and press mixture with a fork.
Form the mixture into patties. Depending on how big you make them you will get around 6-8 patties.
Cook them in the pan for about 3 minutes on each side. Build your favorite burger and enjoy!
