In the quest to become healthy and fit it has come to the point where we, human beings, will try almost anything. From super crazy diets that only allow you chicken breast and broccoli to that “miracle” pill or injection that will make you loose 10 pounds in 1 day in turn damaging your liver an messing up your metabolism. But I have something better for you: unfiltered raw apple cider vinegar. Picture this, tons of health benefits with no side effects. I don’t know about you, but I for sure like the sound of that. It has been accredited with tons of health benefits from curing acne and alleviating hiccups and cold symptoms to weight loss.
My personal favorite health benefit of raw apple cider vinegar and probably the most researched one is its ability to lower blood sugar levels. Elevated blood sugar level is a cause of many chronic diseases so pretty much we can all benefit from this, not just people with diabetes. In a study, it was shown to reduce blood sugar level by 34% when eating 50 grams of white bread.
The most famous health benefit is probably its ability to help you loose weight. But how does that happen you might ask? I bet many of you are already drinking it to loose weight but you have no idea how it works. Well, since it lowers blood glucose level it makes sense that it helps us loose weight. If we have lower blood glucose there is less of a chance that we will accumulate extra fat in our tushy. However, the main reason it makes us loose weight is actually that it makes us feel full so we consume fewer calories throughout the day. In 2 studies it was concluded that drinking apple cider vinegar along with a high carb meal increased the feeling of fullness and people ate 200-275 less calories for the rest of the day. Another study in obese people consuming raw apple cider vinegar daily led to reduced belly fat, waist circumference, lower blood triglycerides and weight loss. If that’s not enough it also increases metabolism and reduces water retention. WOW, you had me at “hello”.
Raw apple cider vinegar can also protect us against heart disease. Given that cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death in the world this is a big deal. Even though this has only been proven in rat studies it has shown to decrease cholesterol, blood pressure, and triglyceride levels.
Although it has not been studied enough to confirm it, raw apple cider vinegar can kill many bacteria. Actually pretty cool to note that Hippocrates used it to heal wounds over 2,000 years ago. This is why some people claim it cures acne, ear infections, tummy problems and sore throat. But please take this with a grain of salt cause it hasn’t been proven.
Raw apple cider vinegar has no side effects and it’s cheap so I definitely consider it a good candidate for self-experimentation, don’t you think? You can add it to your diet like I do by using it to make salad dressings or to preserve foods like pesto or you can dissolve 1 tsp to 1tb in a glass of water. If you’re up for it you can also drink it by itself although I’ve heard some people say it tastes like Drano. Just make sure you buy it unfiltered raw and organic! Bragg’s is the most popular choice.
