First time I make Salmon Burgers and they came out delicious!
I have been wanting to make them for some time. I am a seafood lover and YES, I love burgers too (I just make them healthy style), so I figured it would be a great idea to combine the two.
I make veggies burgers, chicken burgers, bison burgers, or turkey burgers and freeze them individually in the fridge. They make a great option when you don’t have enough time to cook and don’t want to spend the extra bucks ordering food.
I have to admit I used to buy salmon burgers at the supermarket but I didn’t really like not knowing exactly what ingredients and what amounts they contained. Now that I know how easy these are to make I definitely won’t be buying those anymore. All it takes is putting all the ingredients together in a food processor! No excuses! Anybody can make these.
What do I like so much about Salmon?
It’s an amazing source of Omega 3’s (2 gr in 4 oz) and it’s low in mercury.
However, contamination with mercury, pesticides and organic pollutants is still very common in some salmon habitats. The type of salmon that poses the lowest risk of contamination is wild caught Alaskan salmon.
Salmon has the following benefits:
- It is linked to reduced heart problems
- Improved mood and cognition in the elderly
- Protects joints by preventing inflammation
- Decreased risk of eye problems (macular degeneration and dry eyes)
- Protects against cancer
- 1 lb of wild caught Alaskan Salmon (skin removed)
- 1 tb of fresh grated ginger
- 2 tb of low sodium soy sauce (or tamari for gluten free)
- 2 garlic cloves minced
- 2 tb of fresh cilantro
- 1 slice of frozen Ezekiel bread ground in the blender or 2 tb of whole wheat bread crumbs
- 1 pinch of Himalayan salt or celtic sea salt
- Add all ingredients in a food processor and pulse
- Separate in 3-4 portions and make burgers shapes
- Place in the grill or very hot pan coated with olive oil for 4 minutes on each side
- Add any toppings: avocado, spinach, red onion, tomato, pickled ginger, cilantro, sesame seeds, shredded carrots, red peppers, sriracha, wasabi
- It’s also a great idea to use lettuce buns instead of bread!
